Representing UK in The Backyard…
The morning after the night before... 🧟😅
What an incredible experience to be one of the 15 selected from the UK to take part in The World Backyard Team Championships.
Making only my second appearance in the Backyard format; I was delighted to achieve a total mileage of 145.9-miles (35 yards), going one loop better than before. A yard on this occasion was a 4.167-mile loop on somewhat tricky trail terrain deep within the beautiful Knettishall Heath Country Park in Suffolk.
I'd like to say a big thank you to the race organisers and the volunteers for their support, encouragement and for providing me with some of the finest cups of tea I've ever tasted. A huge thanks to my crew chief, dad. You provided me with support, sustenance, and strength. I'm forever grateful.
It was a real privilege to share the corral and the trails with some fantastic athletes. We encouraged one another, chatted and made the dark moments a little lighter. Special mention and congratulations to Matthew Blackburn for taking the win, and Andrew Jackson for the assist. Dad and I were fortunate to return this morning to see the race reach its conclusion after 47-yards.
Finally I'd like to just say thank you to the Smilinggg Community, whether you've supported the cause in one or more of the events I have participated in since 2015 - thank you.
When I was having some particular low moments out on the course, I focused on the generosity of The Smilinggg Community and it kept me going.
I also told myself during those moments that this achievement, which I consider up there with one of my best so far, is dedicated to all those who have been directly or indirectly impacted by suicide, and to you, my Smilinggg crew.
The @samaritanscharity fundraising page will remain open for the next couple of weeks and every £1 donated is appreciated beyond words (link in bio).
